Blue Pacific - New LBD Color - A beautiful Caribbean blue polish with shimmer

Artificial lighting

In daylight

Hi friends,

I am so ready for this cold weather to go away.  Far far away.  I admit I'm just not into cold weather.  Born in July, I love the heat, 80 to 95 degrees and I'm happy.  With my love for hot weather, you would think I was born in the Caribbean or some other warm beachy place, but no, I'm a mid-westerner by birth and I should be ok with cold weather. But sadly, I am no fan of it.

In my desperation to remember that warm days are coming again, I created a beautiful Caribbean blue polish which I named Blue Pacific.  I chose the name after a song written and performed by singer/song writer/musician Michael Franks, a jazz artist from way back when.

My youngest son has taken jazz music by storm and has me listening to all the old great jazz pieces.  Most of them were written long before my time, and I'm familiar with them, and I enjoy his enthusiasm in his new passion.  I just have one complaint.  He wants to play every instrument known to man and I just can't keep up with him.  Starting with the trombone in the 5th grade, he moved on to the saxophone and trumpet and now wants a bass trombone.  What the heck? I never even heard of a base trombone before.  I vetoed the trumpet when he asked for it, so he used his own money and bought it himself.  He took it out the case and in a few minutes was working his way through the book.  In a week he was ready for book two.  Will I have to get a part time job to keep up with his books and lessons and instruments?  Anybody hiring?  I could use the cash.

Or, I can just stare at my Blue Pacific polish and think of warm weather and sandy beaches and let my concerns melt away.

Blue Pacific went on sale today in my online store.  You can find it here.

Ciao for now!

Green Sparkly Christmas Nails

I'm so excited about Christmas this year.  It's weird because I'm usually not so stirred.  But I'm gonna roll with it and hopefully bring in the new year with a bang.

This week I'm wearing a sparkly green manicure, perfect for my office holiday party.  I used two polishes by Little Black Dress Nail Lacquer - Enticing Emerald (green glitter polish) and Fiesta (bright red polish).  Both polishes are available in my online shop, but there aren't many left so If you're interested in either, grab them before they go.

Have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...ciao for now!

Holiday Nail Art

Hi friends, I decided to do a little holiday nail art because for some reason, I'm actually in the Christmas spirit this year.  Yay Christmas!  And since it's been a while, I'll give you a little life update.

As you know, I have two sons, known to you as my teen and my young man or pre-teen.  Well, they're a bit older now and I have to rename them.  My teen is now in college so I will refer to him as my college student, and my young man (pre-teen) is officially a teen and will be referred to as a monster boy.  Just kidding, I'll call him my teen... but really, he's one of THOSE type teens. Surly, condescending (because I can't keep up with the latest slang), and he wants to be left alone.  So, not only has my oldest gone off to college, but my youngest doesn't want to hang out with mommy anymore.  Yes, I am a little heart broken, I'm not going to lie.  But my college student is coming home this week for Christmas break and I'm all excited for the holidays!!!!  My surly teen is going to have to suck it up because the festivities are about to begin, and yes, he has to participate in it all.  I'm about to make his life miserable because he has to do the whole family thing.  Muhahahaaa <queue evil laugh and lightning>.

On Dancer on Prancer, on to the polish!
But first, a disclaimer.  This photo is not so great, I'm the first to admit it.  After playing in the snow, my hands were not at their best.  Perhaps I should have taken the pic, THEN enjoyed the snow.  Also, I used my phone camera because it was a spur of the moment shot.

I'm planning another holiday design for next week, so be sure to check back.  Ciao for now!

House Of Neptune: Mermaid's Lair and Treasures Of The Second Son

As promised, today I have pictures from the House Of Neptune Collection.  I used two of the polishes from the collection.  Mermaid's Lair is a sparkly blue jelly based glitter polish with a high metallic shine like the tail of a mermaid.   Treasures Of The Second Son is a sandy neutral multi-glitter topper.

Of course I had to do a mermaid theme of sorts.

Sneak Peak: House Of Neptune Collection

Hi friends,

Today I have a sneak peak at the soon to be available Little Black Dress House Of Neptune Collection.
A little sea, a little sand, and a lot of sea foam.  This manicure uses three of the four polishes in the collection.

Why Neptune? Well, who doesn't love the stories in Greek Mythology?  I can't get enough of them.  So, several months ago, I found myself a bit absorbed in reading the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan.  I know, the books are for kids, but come on, give me a break. I like Mythology, and Rick spins a great tale. In the series, the main character, Percy is the demigod son of Poseidon, which became my inspiration for this collection.  By the way, Neptune is the Roman counterpart for Poseidon, hence, House Of Neptune.

In the next week or two, I hope to showcase the collection so continue to follow my blog or join me on Facebook .

Time For Design

Hi friends,
I guess it's not a far stretch to imagine that I haven't had a lot of time to put into nail art lately.  This week my nails started talking to me.  They were quite rude too.   "We're sick of that acetone stuff you use, you mistreat us!", they yelled.  So,  I returned to using a peel off base coat, and gave them a little pampering, which appeased them for a while.  Then the grumbling and complaining started again. This time they wanted a real manicure with nail art. "... not where you just paint one hand for pictures either,  we want to be pretty and presentable to the public!"  Ok, so I had to agree,  it's been a while since I took my time and settled down for a little nail art time.  Funny how it took me longer to figure out what design to do than it took to paint it.

My nails are now at peace. They're satisfied with the 'oohs and ahhs' they received from coworkers (who were probably relieved to see that I finally did something with them).

I used polishes from the new LBD Summer Holo Gemstones collection, and a black polish by Wet n Wild.

Ciao for now!

National Cleanse Your Skin Week

Hi ladies,

Relax,  I'm not advertising for Neutrogena, or any skin care company.  No,  today I'm shedding a little light on an important subject that non-beauty gurus might find useful.  Don't worry, I'm no beauty authority figure myself,  but I do take care of my skin... the skin on my face,  I mean.

Think about it, 10 years from now,  what will people see when they look at you?  How about 20 years from now?  That's right, your face.  And guess what ladies? In 10 or 20 years from now your lovely face is not going to look the same as it does now.  Shocker, right?  You might want to take notes.

Wether you keep Mac and Clinique in business or if you go au natural, it's important to take care of your skin. Again,  I have to reiterate here that I'm no authority figure on the subject. So don't expect a list of fancy,  expensive products and gadgets from me. I can tell you now that you'll be disappointed.  Nothing fancy here guys. A simple daily cleanser, gentle enough for babies, a little witch hazel for toner, and a self blended mixtire of jojoba oil and vitamin E to moisturize.  See,  nothing fancy.  Use what works for your skin. I use a weekly mask for moisture and that's about it.  That's my routine.

Here are some suggestions on simple skin care. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize daily. You can give yourself facials or go to a spa for treatments regularly.  Wear sunscreen to protect your skin and stay well hydrated.

Maybe you do some of these things,  or most of these things,  but just not regularly.  That's ok, just find that combination that works best for you.

This week brings a little national reminder to treat your skin well.  Wether its your face, or your entire body,  your skin is important.

Ciao for now Bellas!

New Holographic Summer Trio by LBD

Summer Holographic Gemstone Trio

Hi Ladies!
It's been too long, but, boy oh boy do I have news for you.  Today LBD Nail Lacquer released a holographic trio that might knock your socks off... or stockings, or whichever you're wearing.  This collection is part one of two sets.  The second trio will be released this fall.

Obviously this collection was inspired by Earth's crystal treasures,  but here's my inspiration story.   As I was digging through a bag of old, forgotten jewellery,  I came across a pair of gold sandstone earrings that I adored. I can't figure out why I had stored them away.  I polished them up and put them on and eagerly scanned through my closet to find something to go with them. I know, traditionally you're supposed to match accessories to outfits, but I love accessories more than clothes so I find outfits to go match my accessories. Weird, right?

Years ago I used to make jewelry. I had to set my hobby aside due to time constraints and circumstances, but as I stared at those stones the jewelry making bug bit me and I thought, "Wouldn't it be great if I could merge my two favorite things--  making jewelry and making nail polish?"  The best I could come up with was to make a gold sandstone polish to match the earrings. I decided I liked the holo polish and made a few more, representing a couple more of my favorite crystals. And that's how the story goes.

Click on the pics below for more information about each polish and the set.

New Golden Dew Cuticle Oil and a Teal Holo Preview

Hi Ladies!

Is your summer going as smoothly as mine is?  I hope so.  It's been great so far.  My big teen is on vacation, due to come home today, and my little teen has been the perfect angel in his brother's absence.  I think there's a correlation there, but I dare comment on it.  Big brother away = little brother being a perfect little angel.  Hmmm...is this a precursor to how life will be when the oldest goes away to college?  If so, I'll help him get packed tonight.  Just kidding.

Well, with my free time I've been busy making and testing polish, preparing to release a few more colors for the summer season.  Here's a little glimpse at a teal linear holo that's scheduled to come out in a small collection near the end of the summer.  I can't wait.

But that's not what this post is about today.  Nope, today I'm announcing the release of Golden Dew Cuticle Oil.  It's a fruity scented cuticle oil designed to nourish, and hydrate your nails and cuticles.  You can find it online here.  LBD also has a night time cuticle butter called Beauty Sleep Cuticle Treatment that will release in July.  The daytime oil and nighttime butter together will keep your nails nourished, pampered and in great condition to show off your pretty manicure.

Until next time,
Ciao Bellas!

Beauty Sleep Cuticle Treatment

Thursday, June 15, 2017

Hello, hello, hello friends,
The lovely duo is finally here!  Prom Queen and Prom King can be found online in the LBD shop today.  This set is planned to be a limited edition duo, but based on popularity, it may go for a longer run.

So, what's next? you say.  I'm glad you asked.  Are you ready to pamper your nails, nourish and protect them? A little nail nurturing goes a long way.  Next month you can care for your cuticles and nails with Golden Dew Cuticle oil and Beauty Sleep Cuticle Treatment, a nighttime restoration butter for your cuticles.  Follow LBD on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Littleblackdresspolish/ for information on the release date.

Well what else ya got? you ask.  Well, I'll tell you -- Summer collections are on the way!  Not one, but a couple small sets will release throughout the summer.  I'm looking forward to those bright summer colors.

Until next time,
Ciao Bellas!

Prom King and Queen 2017 Nail Polish Duo

Hi friends,

Last week, I was the proud mama of a prom king and high school graduate.  Whew! One down and one to go.  My teen was voted prom king for his high school this year, and his lovely girlfriend was voted prom queen.  What a dream.
Of course I had to commemorate the event by customizing a light blue glittery fairy tail polish for our prom queen. I call it.... wait for it.... Prom Queen... Tada!  And since her mom requested a navy cream polish I decided to create a duo.  Prom Queen can be worn on its own in 2 or 3 coats, or you can wear it as a topper over the navy color, which I call...wait for it.... Prom King.  Ok, so I'll never work for O.P.I. as a nail polish namer  (I gave up on that dream).  Prom King is a deep pigmented navy cream polish that's made to wear on its own or as a base color underneath the glittery Prom Queen polish.

Since the custom duo was a hit, they are currently in production and will be released as a limited edition in the LBD store soon.  Follow Little Black Dress Nail Lacquer on Facebook to know when the new limited edition duo is available.

Ciao for now, Bellas!

LBD Spring Collection 2017 - Creamsicle

Happy Saturday!

The last polish in the LBD Spring Collection is available.  This peachy pink iridescent polish will make you crave the orange and cream Creamsicles  from the ice cream truck.  Yum.  The formula is semi-sheer and will require 2 or more coats to be opaque.  You can find Creamsicle in the online store here.

This summer, we're taking a little break from production...maybe.  With prom and graduation looming, and getting my son set up for college, and .... ok, my head is starting to spin.  Yeah, looks like a short break is in order.  But there are a few things you can still look forward to this summer.  Two new products will be launching early July - a sweet scented cuticle oil, and an emollient cuticle and nail treatment.  Both are currently in production and will be ready for you in the shop.  Also, we have a limited edition fun glitter/base duo that's perfect for the summer.

Follow Little Black Dress on Facebook for new product availability.

LBD Spring Collection 2017 - Spring Rain

Happy Friday!

Finally, the last two colors of the Little Black Dress Spring Collection for 2017 are available.  Spring Rain is a cool iridescent blue/purple with a hint of sparkle shimmer to brighten up a rainy spring day.  And boy have we gotten plenty of that lately.  I think this spring has been one of the wettest we've had in a long time in my area.

Come back tomorrow to see the last color in the collection, or head on over to the shop to check it out now. Click here for the LBD online shop.

Till next time,

There are only two more polishes left in the collection, so if you want to know when they're available,  follow this blog, or follow the Little Black Dress Facebook page.

LBD Spring Collection - Renew

Hi Ladies,

Admittedly, I'm a little late with today's post.   I was in bed all weekend,  not able to get around much due to pain in... well,  everywhere.  I'm still feeling like an arthritic 90 year old, but you know how it goes, still have to work and pay bills and taxi the kids to school and activities.  I've been working with my doctors to find out what's going on, but I suspect fibromyalgia. Lot of pain, no cure.  It takes time to diagnose by eliminating other possible ailments.  But for now, I'm taking things slow and avoiding too much strain.  After an hour of making polish,  my back starts to scream, "Enough already!"  So that's why I'm behind schedule.  I know,  it's probably TMI, so if you've read this far, thanks for listening to me whine.  Now let's move ahead to the polish.

This color is named Renew because spring brings us a renewed outlook on things, and a fresh start. And what better color to denote that than a soft blush polish with an iridescent glow.  This neutral polish leans toward pink.  Renew is available now at the Little Black Dress Shop.

If I can pull myself together this week,  I'll post the next spring collection color called Mint Condition, and as you can guess, it has a minty hue with an iridescent glow.

Until next time,
Ciao for now!

LBD Spring Collection 2017 - Tulip Blossom

Hi loves!
It's a little premature for me to say this,  but I can't wait for school to end. I know we're in spring break right now,  but I can't help rushing things along.  My little man is now a teen, and his big brother graduates from high school next month.  I feel like I'm going back to college all over again.  I think I'm more excited than he is, as I'm looking forward to reliving the best years of my life vicariously through him and his friends.  As an added bonus I will retrieve space in my home when he leaves.  That means reduce,  reorganize,  and redecorate.  That's always fun.

Now let's get to the polish.  This is the newest polish in the Little Black Dress Nail Lacquer 2017 spring collection.  It's called Tulip Blossom and it reminds me of Easter baskets and... well, Tulip blossoms,  hence the name,  lol. It has an iridescent glow in which you can see hints of blue.  Tulip Blossom can be found in the LBD store here.

Watch for the next spring color next week.  Check back here or follow LBD on Facebook.
